Reading Comprehension
Read the passage and answer the question.
Octopuses possess a remarkable ability to change the color and texture of their skin almost instantly. Specialized cells called chromatophores expand and contract to display different pigments, while other structures alter how light reflects off the surface. Surprisingly, octopuses are colorblind, yet they still match their surroundings with striking accuracy. Researchers suspect the animals may detect light directly through their skin, bypassing the eyes entirely. This camouflage serves not only to hide from predators but also to communicate with other octopuses and to startle prey, making it one of the most versatile defensive tools in the animal kingdom.
