Arrange the sentences into a logical order.

Put the sentences in the correct order:

  1. It was only a decade later that other scientists turned his discovery into the first mass-produced antibiotic.
  2. Although he published his findings, he lacked the means to purify the compound for medical use.
  3. Curious about this effect, he isolated the substance the mould produced and named it penicillin.
  4. Among the neglected dishes, he noticed that a stray mould had killed the bacteria growing around it.
  5. In 1928, the bacteriologist Alexander Fleming returned from a holiday to find his laboratory in disarray.
