Read the passage and select ALL statements it supports.

Recovered from an ancient shipwreck near the Greek island of Antikythera, a corroded lump of bronze turned out to be one of the most surprising objects from the ancient world. Inside were dozens of finely cut gear wheels, arranged to model the movements of the Sun, the Moon, and probably the known planets. By turning a handle, a user could predict the positions of these bodies and even the dates of eclipses. Nothing of comparable mechanical complexity is known from the following thousand years. The device shows that ancient engineers understood gearing far better than historians once assumed, even if the knowledge was later lost.

According to the passage, which statements about the Antikythera mechanism are accurate? (select all that apply)
