The practice of fika is a daily social ritual in Sweden, in which people pause to drink coffee and eat a small sweet, often a cinnamon bun. More than a simple coffee break, fika is treated as a moment to slow down and connect with others. Many Swedish workplaces schedule it twice a day, and some employers consider it important for team morale. While fika usually involves coffee, tea and other drinks are perfectly acceptable. The tradition is so embedded in daily life that the word can be used as both a noun and a verb.

Some Swedish employers regard fika as beneficial for team morale.
