A growing number of libraries now lend far more than books. At the Brindle Community Library, patrons can borrow board games, telescopes, sewing machines, and even tools for home repair. The idea began when a librarian noticed that many residents bought expensive items they used only once or twice. By keeping a shared collection, the library lets people try equipment before deciding whether to buy it, and saves households money on things they rarely need. Borrowing has become so popular that the library has added a second storage room just for non-book items.
